Part one …
This is one couple’s Mediation journey with Willow Tree Mediation. While the story is real, the names have been changed to respect privacy.
Mary knocked at my office door and asked if she could ask me a few questions. She looked pale and a little anxious. Mary and her partner were recently separated and weren’t talking at all. “This is harder than I thought and I need some financial support to get a place of my own. I don’t want to start a Court case, but I don’t know what else to do. Can you help us find a way through this?”
As I listened to Mary’s story, she became more relaxed. Their relationship had come to the point where they had almost separated in the past, but she was sure this time. She explained that after their last argument, she left and they haven’t spoken since then. We discussed who would invite Simon to participate in mediation and she asked me to contact him. When I reached out to Simon by e-mail, he responded immediately, relieved to find a way through this without ever going before a Judge or paying large sums of money to lawyers.
Being a former Court staff mediator, I have helped hundreds of people who just wanted a peaceful agreement with their ex-partner, but didn’t know where to turn. Mediation is very successful, especially if it is a first step to exploring options for an agreement, outside of Court.
